Tuckpointing & Mortar Repair in Memphis

Failed mortar joints let water destroy brick. Madewell grinds out the old joints and packs in fresh, color-matched mortar — the most cost-effective masonry repair on most homes.

Mortar Restoration

What Is Tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing (also called repointing) is grinding out deteriorated mortar and replacing it with properly mixed, color-matched mortar. In Mid-South freeze-thaw weather, joints fail long before the brick — and early repointing is a fraction of a full rebuild.

  • Color- and joint-matched mortar

When Do You Need Tuckpointing?

If you can scrape mortar out with a screwdriver, if joints are recessed and crumbling, or if you see white efflorescence staining, it is time. Waiting lets water reach the brick core and causes spalling.

Tuckpointing Questions

Good mortar often lasts 25 to 30 years before it needs attention, depending on weather and the original mix.
