Chimney Relining

Chimney Relining in Memphis and the Mid-South

A chimney liner is the barrier between the fire and the wood framing of your house. When it fails, the chimney is no longer safe to use — and unlike a cracked crown, you cannot see the damage from the ground. Madewell is one of the few Memphis chimney relining companies that will show you camera footage of the flue before recommending the work.

Signs your flue needs relining

  • Pieces of clay tile or mortar collecting in the firebox or on the smoke shelf.
  • An unlined flue — common in Mid-South homes built before the 1950s.
  • A liner sized for a wood fireplace now venting a gas or insert appliance.
  • Smoke entering the room, or a persistent smoke smell between uses.
  • A failed Level 2 inspection after a chimney fire, or before a home sale.

How we reline

Most relines use a UL-listed stainless steel liner sized to the appliance, insulated, and run continuously from the firebox to the top of the stack. Where the existing clay tile is sound but the joints have failed, a cast-in-place or joint-sealing repair can be the better and less invasive option. We tell you which one your chimney actually needs.

Relining is not a guess

Any contractor quoting a reline without putting a camera up the flue is guessing. Ask to see the footage — on our jobs you always get it.

Relining is often paired with a Level 2 chimney inspection and crown and cap repair, since water entry is what destroys most liners in the first place.
